    Airlite Plastics Acquires S&L Plastics

Airlite Plastics Co. is pleased to announce that effective April 1, 2012, it completed its acquisition of S&L Plastics, Inc.

S&L Plastics was a privately held plastics manufacturing company with stock products and custom molding and extruding capabilities. The company, located in Nazareth, PA, was founded in the late 1940’s and produces products for various industry segments and customers. Specifically, Measurex® scoops - plastic scoops for food, beverage, chemical and nutritional products; Nylaflow tubing – premium high performance tubing; Nylatron® extrusion – profile shapes for uses such as wear surfaces, guide rails and edge protectors; and Orthoform® extrusions – sheet extrusion in various gauges for orthopedic and prosthetic applications.

The manufacturing facility will continue to operate as it had prior to the acquisition with all the products and trade names remaining the same. The S&L Plastics name, however, will be retired eventually and the facility will operate as a division of Airlite Plastics.

“We are excited to add the products, plastic processing capabilities and skilled employees from S&L Plastics,” said Brad Crosby (President and CEO of Airlite Plastics). “The addition of this facility provides us with new capabilities, markets and an Eastern location allowing for future growth opportunities.”

Highlighting the E651, the Initial Product of the E-Line

E651 - 6 ounce IML containers with L302W flat lids

Products that Offer a Unique, Sleek Design with Outstanding Shelf Appeal

Airlite Plastics commercialized the E651 cup in 2010, which was the first of Airlite’s new E-Line series of products.  The E651 is a 6 ounce full-wrap IML PP cup that provides outstanding shelf appeal by combining a unique design with high quality IML graphics.

The E651 is uncommonly attractive.  Different than other cups, the E651 has a 302 diameter round top that tapers into a 2-1/4” x 1-3/4” rectangular bottom.  Just below the lip, the rectangle creates a broad profile on the front and back surfaces for branding, product information and nutritional facts.  The E651 was designed for yogurt, but it was particularly designed to highlight the brand name on the brand billboard.

Airlite will add an E-Line 8 ounce, 12 ounce and 16 ounce container in a 410 diameter yet this year.  Pair with Airlite’s existing L410Q IML lid for a truly upscale package.

    Benefits of the E651:

    • A sleek design that sets itself apart from other cups on the shelf.
    • A unique shape that provides two broad panels—front and back—for branding, product information and nutritional facts.
    • IML graphic quality that is eye catching and covers the full sidewall of the container.
    • A contoured cup that is easy to stack and store.

Airlite Plastics is a “Pack Expo Selects” Finalist, Again!

For the third consecutive year an Airlite Plastics package has been selected as a finalist in the "Pack Expo Selects" packaging innovation competition. A group of packaging professionals assembled by PMMI, the host organization for Pack Expo, reviewed all the nominations and awarded ten packages as finalist award winners. Airlite’s B-Line IML handled buckets were selected by the committee for the honor.

The B-line employs IML (in-mold labeling) for superior graphics and eye-catching consumer appeal. For food and non-food applications alike, the containers and lids employ a built-in tamper deterring seal and a convenient handle design for carrying that folds out of the way on the shelf. The packages are reusable for storage and fully recyclable. Available in 5 pound, 1 gallon and 10 pound sizes.

This is the third year in a row that Airlite has been honored for its innovative IML package development. In 2008 it was the hugely popular Q-Line package. In 2009 the custom IML Hormel Foods, Lloyds Barbeque container and lid was not only a finalist, but finished 3rd overall in voting by attendees at Pack Expo.

The B-Line will be on display at this year's Pack Expo in Chicago (Oct 31 – Nov 3) in the Showcase of Packaging Innovation as well as the Airlite booth.
